The Directors Journal
Our most recent project with Mercedes-Benz and Highsnobiety started with an email, in that email the shoot date listed was 7 days away from time we found out we got the project. From that point forward one of the most stressful weeks of my year started, fast forward roughly 120+ work hours that week and we arrived on-set of our first of three days shooting. Many problems popped up during the next 60 hours of our shoot but all the stress and nights filled with very little sleep were worth it when we hit playback on the RED and watched the amazing footage we captured.
I think in that one week we had so many overlapping plans and “what if” situations with the weather that we were so lucky everything fell into place at the last moment. This along with the fact that our client, Mercedes-Benz were truly a dream to work with – sometimes everything just clicks!
Our camera car coupled with our RED Helium 8K setup and the awesome Shotover G1 putting in work as we move around the tight factory warehouse space capturing shots of the Mercedes-Benz EQA. Need a camera car for you project, cheap plug I know – hit us up!
Last year we started Huxham Creative Studio with our sole intent on being able to “get things done”, quickly and without very little chit chat and wasting peoples time – through this we have connected a whole bunch of creatives that all came together to produce an amazing film in such a short amount of time.
I wanted to express a huge thanks to Risa Nakatomi and Nobuki Ogawa from Dentsu CRX for jumping on this project so quick and helping us get everything organized. Then we have the rest of the crew all listed below that jumped into the project head first.
From the camera crew, to our amazing editor, producers, lighting and assistants everyone had to react and work as efficient as possible. Amazing effort everyone, the boiler room moments on set and during the edit were totally worth it! Gen, you’re a machine, love working with you! Yosuke, beautiful lighting throughout. Kaku and his DIT team are life lines, best DIT crew around – big thanks! Yosuke thanks for capturing all the BTS footage, working unassisted and always reliable. Akira, keep hustling buddy and Tomoko for looking after our talent all day and night, beautiful hair and make.
Pure boiler room moment in progress…
The guys over at Source Sound Inc came in last moment and knocked the sound design out of the park, truly adding a whole other level to the film. Big thank you goes out to Charles Deenen and his crew – hope we can work together more in the future.
Lastly big thanks to Highsnobiety and Mercede-Benz for allowing us to do this project with them, seriously cool vibes.
